Wegmans revealed plans to open a new 80,000 square-foot store in Rockville, MD on June 25, marking its ninth in Maryland. It also plans to open a 92,000 square-foot location in Norwalk, CT on July 23. Meanwhile, Wegmans is preparing to open its first location on Long Island, NY. The 101,000 square-foot Lake Grove store is set to open February 26.

In the JOANN, DIP case, the Debtors filed a motion seeking to close an initial group of 533 underperforming stores, or roughly two-thirds of its store base. The Debtors expect to proceed with the initial store closings as soon as practicable after the entry of an order. Additionally, the Debtors request authority to conduct additional store closings, to be identified at a later date.

J.C. Penney announced plans to close a handful of stores by mid-year, citing “expiring lease agreements” and “market changes.” The Retail Openings & Closings map on the left shows the eight locations slated to close.
J.C. Penney operates 656 stores, as of February 1, 2025, down from 663 stores a year ago, or a subtraction of seven locations.
Kirkland’s identified an initial list of 6% of its stores that do not meet its profitability standards and says it is aggressively taking action to address these stores. Such actions include strategically converting stores into a more margin accretive brand augmenting the assortment strategy to drive improved profitability through the term of the lease, and closing select locations.
As shown on the adjacent map, Kirkland's operated 325 locations as of November 2024, down from 339 locations YOY.
CVS Health plans to close 271 stores this year as part of a restructuring plan. As these stores are identified, RetailStat will add to its Retail Openings & Closings database.
