Macy's will close its Bloomingdale's anchor store at San Francisco Centre in late spring. The closure marks Bloomingdale's exit from San Francisco, CA, with the closest locations in Palo Alto and Santa Clara. It should be noted that Nordstrom closed its San Francisco Centre location in 2023. The shopping center is currently under receivership as it looks to cut its $625 million in debt.
The adjacent Retail Openings & Closings map shows over 100 future store closures slated across the Department Store sector, including 67 across Macy's banners, 27 Kohl's locations, five Nordstrom locations, two J.C. Penney stores, and one each under for Stein Mart and Dillards.
According to our Retail Openings & Closings tracker, SpartanNash plans to close Family Fare Supermarkets stores in Glenwood, IA and Chippewa Falls, WI, as well as a third to be determined location. In addition, its VG's Grocery banner will close a store in Caro, IA. The Company did not provide details about why these locations were chosen for closure, but noted that closures are part of "our continuous evaluation of our overall retail footprint and what is best for our nearly 200 Company-operated stores." The stores will close over the next few months. Family Fare operates 95 stores in the Midwest, primarily in Michigan. VG's Grocery operates nine stores in Michigan.

Bass Pro Shops will open a 75,000 square-foot store in Greater Gulfport-Biloxi, MS in early 2027. The Company has several openings planned, according to our Retail Openings & Closings tracker, including three in 2025 in Clifton Park, NY; Odessa, TX; and Tucson, AZ.

Smoothie King opened 84 new stores in 2024 and expects to add more than 100 locations in 2025. Top growth markets in 2024 included Indianapolis, IN (15 locations), Dallas-Fort Worth, TX (10 locations), and Atlanta, GA (seven locations).
