Reports indicate that Big Lots may consider a bankruptcy filing in the coming weeks if it cannot secure investor support to avoid Chapter 11. Recently, key members of management were awarded cash bonuses to stay with the company for the next year—a move not too surprising given the burden of managing a company through restructuring. So far, actions have included liquidating over 300 stores.

Amazon Fresh opened four new stores last week, including its first in Northern California and additional units in Illinois, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. All four stores offer Amazon's Dash Cart automated grocery carts and Amazon One, the Company's palm-recognition technology.
The four new stores bring Amazon Fresh's store count to 50 locations in eight states. See the adjacent map for Amazon Fresh's locations. Of the Company's 50 stores, 38% are located in California, 30% in the Mid-Atlantic, 22% in Illinois, and 10% in Washington.

Publix signed a lease for a new 50,000 square-foot store in Owensboro, KY. The opening date is to be determined. Publix opened its first Kentucky store in Louisville earlier this year and said it plans to open five more locations in Louisville, Lexington, and Walton. The Company has 1,425 locations across eight states.
As shown in the adjacent Retail Openings & Closings map, Publix has more than a dozen stores in the pipeline for Kentucky.
Bass Pro Shops will open an 85,000 square-foot Outdoor World location in Lansing, MI, its sixth in the state. There are currently three Cabela's and two Bass Pro Shops in Michigan. The destination is expected to open in early 2026.
Bass Pro Shops has several store openings in the pipeline, including locations in Clifton Park, NY, Sayreville, NJ, and Spring, TX that are due to open later this year.
Shake Shack will close six underperforming locations in California, two in Texas, and one in Ohio, effective September 25.

The Company will also open 40 new Company-owned locations and 40 more licensed locations. Shake Shack has expanded to over 510 locations system-wide, including over 330 in 33 U.S. states and 180 international units.
